Prof. Bonaventure W. Kerre is the Current KNQA Council Chairman. He holds a Bachelor of Science and Masters in Technical and Vocational Education (Oregon State University, 1980); and a Ph.D. in TVET (University of Minnesota, 1984) USA.
Prof. Kerre is a pioneer TVET scholar, teacher educator and consultant with vast experiences in Africa and the international community. He has long academic service in higher education, having served as lecturer, senior lecturer and Director at Kenyatta University from 1986 to 1996; and having served as Associate Professor, Full Professor and Dean of the School of Education at Moi University from 1996 to 2010. His major contribution in the African region has been through his work through UNESCO consultancies in helping several African countries to formulate and develop their national TVET policies and qualification frameworks. These Countries include Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Liberia and Mozambique.
Dr. Kevit Desai is the Principal Secretary in the State Department of Vocational and Technical Training (VTT), He holds a master’s and Doctorate in Robotics Control Systems Engineering from Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT), Tokyo, Japan; and an undergraduate degree in Electrical/Electronic/Computer Engineering, form the City University, Japan.
He has worked as a Task Force Member of the former Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, where he was involved in the development of the Universities Act; Science and Technology Act; and Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TIVET) Act all of which have been passed by Parliament. He is the Chairperson of the Social and Political Pillars Board Committee of Vision 2030. He is championing TVET reforms through linkages with Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, government, Private Sector and Academia to promote outcomes of self and gainful employment, in an effort towards transformation of Kenya’s Technical and Vocational Education Training Platform.
Ms. Gilda Odera was appointed as a KNQA Council Member ; representing the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE). She is a results-driven Senior Executive with 28 years of work experience in the diverse marketing services sector, the Information Communication and Technology (ICT) sector and in the public sector having served in public boards in various organizations, namely in health, procurement and education.
She is a pioneer in the ICT industry in Kenya and was instrumental in shaping the ICT and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and Impact Sourcing sector in Kenya through policy advocacy and providing advice to government in private/public sector task forces. She has vast experience in policy implementation and development, as well as providing profitable relationships between the private sector and government and currently serves as the 2nd National Vice President at the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE).
Gilda Odera is a PhD candidate in Public Policy specializing in Management and Leadership and holds a Master of Arts in Leading Innovation and Change and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology. She has also attended various courses including Executive Business Education in Corporate Boards, Audit Committees and Compensation Committees at Harvard Business School.
Mr. Ernst N. Nadome was appointed as a KNQA Council Member on 30th October 2015. Mr. Nadome is the Secretary General of the Kenya Electrical Trade and Allied Workers Union (KETAWU) and represents the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) in the KNQA Council.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) Degree (University of Nairobi), Master of Arts degree in Labor Management Relations (UoN) and has worked as the 1st Assistant Secretary General of the Central Organization of Trade Union (COTU-K). He is Well versed in Energy, Human, Social Protection and Labor matters, having earlier on worked for Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KENGEN) Limited and Kenya Power (KP) for 16 years. He later shifted his interests to the trade union sector where he has vast experience. He is a Board Member of the National Labor Board and the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA), and is the Chairman of Kenya Power Pension Fund DC scheme, Kenya Electricity Generating Company DC scheme, the National Industrial Training Authority Pension Scheme and Chairman of Tom Mboya Labor College, Kisumu.
Ms. Bibiana Otieno was appointed as a KNQA Council Member on 30th October 2015. Ms. Otieno is a Manager, Outreach Services at the Technical and Vocational Training Authority (TVETA) and represents TVETA in the KNQA Council. She holds an MA in Project Planning and Management from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor of Education, (Home Economics) from Kenyatta University. Bibiana has worked as a Senior Assistant Director, Technical Education and has 18 years’ experience in Technical Education and Quality Assurance in the Ministry Education, State Department of Vocational and Technical Training, Kenya. She is the Chairperson, Sector Training Committee, at NITA.
Gwiyo Komora was appointed as a KNQA Council Member on 30th October 2015. Mr. Komora is a Director at the Department of Basic Education in the Ministry of Education, Kenya. In the KNQA Council he represents the Educational Standards and Quality assurance Council (ESQAC) which is the body in charge of Quality Assurance in Basic Education in Kenya. Mr. Komora has long experience working in the Ministry of Education in Kenya and currently serves as a Deputy Director, in the State Department of basic Education. He represents the basic Education sector in the KNQA Council.
Justice Paul Koskei was appointed as a KNQA Council Member on 30th October 2015. Justice Koskei is the Director General and CEO of the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA). In the KNQA Council he represents the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Labor in Kenya.
Isaac W. Gathirwa was appointed as a KNQA Council Member on 30th October 2015. Mr. Gathirwa is an Advocate and is currently the Head of Legal and Enforcement Department at Commission for University Education (CUE). In the KNQA Council he represents the Commission for University Education. Mr. Gathirwa is Currently pursuing LLD at the University of Nairobi. He holds a master’s in law (LL.M) (UoN), Masters in Business Administration (Strategic Management option) (KU) and Bachelors in Law (LL. B) (Moi). He is a member of Law Society of Kenya and ICPSK. He has practiced Law both in the private and public sectors. In the public sector he has risen through the ranks to his current position of Chief Legal Officer.
Isaiah O. Ochelle was appointed as a KNQA Council Member on 30th October 2015. Mr. Ochelle is a senior Finance officer Working with the National Treasury, Kenya. In the KNQA Council he represents the PS National Treasury. Mr. Ochelle holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics (Major) from the University of Nairobi and a Master’s Degree in Public Policy (MPP) from University of Erfurt, Germany. He joined the public service in 2003 at the National Treasury. He has served in the Government Information Technology Services department and currently works in the Budget Department at the National Treasury as an Assistant Director of Budget.
Dr. Juma Mukhwana was appointed as the first KNQA Director General and CEO in August 2018. Dr Mukhwana is an accomplished Manager and leader with demonstrated ability to deliver mission-critical results in the NGO, Government and the University sector. He has worked both in the Agriculture and higher education sectors both locally and internationally, with distinction and won many awards. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine (1993) and M.Sc in Pharmacology and Toxicology (1995) both from the University Of Nairobi, Kenya, and a PhD in Soil Science from the University of Wyoming in in the USA.
