Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQF) Act No. 22 of 2014, section 8 and the KNQF Regulations of 2018 provides for Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) to facilitate development of a Credit Accumulation and Transfer System (CATS) to enable credit earned at an accredited education and training institution be recognized by another accredited institution or program as meeting part of the requirements for a qualification. KNQA has drafted a National Credit Accumulation and Transfer System to harmonize mobility and progression of learners between and within various levels of related qualifications. Implementation of the system is designed to take a sector by sector wide approach and to this end, KNQA with support of GIZ-CAADP ATVET project, has further developed a CATS for agricultural qualifications.
The aim of formulating the CATS is to facilitate flexible education and training where a learner shall be able to progress vertically or laterally through the KNQF alternative pathways in order to acquire and accumulate appropriate credits that can contribute to the fulfillment of requirements of a national qualifications framework. Credit Accumulation and Transfer (CAT) is designed to be used by training providers to monitor, record and reward passage through modular certificate, diploma and degree courses. It also facilitates movement between and within qualifications levels, course programs and institutions.
The virtual workshop seeks to ensure that the national CAT System meet the expectations of Stakeholders and supports provision of quality education and training in Kenya.
The objective of the workshop is to: –
- 1. Validate the proposed CAT system for Agriculture qualifications;
- 2. Identify any gaps in the draft and how they can be addressed; and
- 3. Build the capacity of stakeholders to implement the CAT system in agricultural qualifications in Kenya.
Participants of the workshop will be drawn from the following:

- 3. Private sector/industry;
- 4. Kenya Federation of Employers;
